April 8, 2005 - Celebration of the Buddha’s Birthday

Rev. Shinkyo Will Warner performs the Buddha's Birthday Celebration at the Lexington Nichiren Buddhist Temple

Rev. Shinkyo Will Warner performs the Buddha's Birthday Celebration at the Lexington Nichiren Buddhist Temple on Sunday, April 10, 2005. There were about 13  people present for the service which made us comfortably crowded!

Traditionally, sweet tea is poured over the Buddha during the ceremony. No one was sure where or how this tradition got started, but members participated as a way to pay homage on this special day and to remember how fortunate we are that the Buddha appeared on this earth as a human being.

The infant Buddha with his right hand pointing to heaven and his left hand pointing to the sky is pictured here in front of the Lexington Nichiren Buddhist Temple.
